"Chili is not so much
food as a state of mind. Addictions to it are formed
early in life and the victims never recover. On blue
days in October, I get this passionate yearning for a
bowl of chili, and I nearly lose my mind."
-- Margaret Cousins, novelist

:: Chili Powder Trivia :: |

|
 |
 |
The first chili powder
was created in 1894 when German-American
café owner William Gebhardt in New
Braunfels, Tex. ran pepper bits through
a small home meat grinder three times
and then dried the ground pepper into a
powder. The Gebhardt brand of chili
powder is today regarded by many chili
cooks as a premium chili powder and
specified by name in their recipes. |
